The Loray Mill in Gastonia, NC, at one time with more than 3,500 employees and a thriving mill community, became the site of a bloody labor strike in1929, claiming the life of the North Carolina's union activist Ella May Wiggins. In this lesson, students will examine this history through primary source documents, reading and discussion, ultimately gaining an understanding of this history, its impact, and its relevance today.
